Exhibition of Original Images by Takao Yaguchi

Mr. Yaguchi Takao applied an author life for 45 years and exhibited all invented works by the overwhelming scale.

Space Brothers Exhibition

[ July 4 to September 23, 2015]
宇宙兄弟展

This was held as a major special exhibition to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the merger and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Masuda Manga Museum. We displayed a large number of materials related to space with the cooperation of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) (e.g. spacesuits (replicas) and rocket models) centered on original images from Space Brothers – a very popular series in Kodansha’s Weekly Morning.

Exhibition of Original Images by Akiko Higashimura

Akiko Higashimura has continued to produce masterpieces in magazines for youths, magazines for youths and a wide variety of settings regardless of being published in manga magazine for girls in a variety of styles. This exhibition provided an exhibition to her work centered on original images from her debut to those of her work that is currently being serialized. Moreover, Ms. Higashimura visited our museum during the period of this exhibition and held a talk event with Takao Yaguchi and a cherry blossom viewing autograph session in Mato Park.

Exhibition of Original Images from Hozuki’s Coolheadedness

We held an exhibition of original images from the incredibly popular Hozuki’s Coolheadedness by Natsumi Eguchi in Kodansha’s Weekly Morning. In addition to displaying carefully selected original images from the eight volumes of this manga and the cover illustrations that graced the cover of these books, we also exhibited previously unpublished original pictures from this work. Moreover, we displayed goods that had been on sale and held a panel exhibition.。

International Asian Manga Exhibition

We held the International Asian Manga Exhibition as a special exhibition to coincide with the National Cultural Festival. We exhibited original images donated by a total of 61 manga artists in East Asia (China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Malaysia and Taiwan) from 2012 to 2014 and works of nine manga artists in Japan together with related materials.

First and Last Exhibition of Great Original Images from IKKI TO THE NEXT STAGE

Shogakukan’s monthly magazine IKKI has produced new talent with unique perspectives that cannot be found in other publications since its first issue in 2000. We held an exhibition of valuable materials and unpublished original images from the works in IKKI that has continued to take on the challenge of innovation in various genres – like a shining star in the world of manga.

Exhibition of Original Images by Kenichi Muraeda

We held an exhibition of original images by the manga artist Kenichi Muraeda to commemorate putting these pictures on permanent display in Masuda Manga Museum and as a relay exhibition project with Ishinomori Manga Museum in Ishinomaki City in Miyagi Prefecture.

Exhibition of Original Images from Moyasimon: Tales of Agriculture and Maria the Virgin Witch

We held this exhibition of original images by Masayuki Ishikawa to commemorate the Akita Destination Campaign. We displayed more than 300 original images focused on Moyasimon: Tales of Agriculture and Maria the Virgin Witch in this special exhibition.

Exhibition to Celebrate the 40th Anniversary since the Birth of Tsurikichi Sanpei

This exhibition showcased the attraction of Sanpei, which is still supported by many fans to this day as a monumental work for fishing manga, centered on original images. In addition, we reproduced the studio of Takao Yaguchi and put on a display of related goods.

Soul of the Road: Seiki Tsuchida Retrospective Exhibition

魂の道程-土田世紀回顧展-

This was a retrospective exhibition to remember the manga artist Seiki Tsuchida from Omori Town in Yokote City who died suddenly last April. We displayed more than 300 original images from his debut work to his last work Kazoku (Nihonbungeisha) centered on his hit long running series Arya Uma Korya Uma(Kodansha) and Henshu O (Shogakukan).

Yokote de Ho Kumiko Minami: World of Yuboku Manga from Kyoto

南久美子 遊墨漫画の世界 from京都

This was the first time an exhibition was held in Akita of humorous works by the Kyoto-based yuboku manga artist Kumiko Minami. We showcased pieces to calm the soul with the tranquility found in yuboku manga that combines black ink text and manga.

World of Takashi Yanase Exhibition

This exhibition showcased the world of Takashi Yanase, who continued to encourage children through the ages, together with about 150 works centered on original images from his major picture books such as Anpanman and Poetry and Fairy Tales.

Exhibition of Original Images to Celebrate the 40 Year Career of Yoshihiro Takahashi

This was an exhibition of original images to celebrate the 40 year career of the manga artist Yoshihiro Takahashi who was born in Higashinaruse in Akita Prefecture. We introduced Takahashi’s Locus of Love and Justice together with more than 300 original images – from his debut work to his manga that is currently being serialized.

World of Masayuki Ishikawa Exhibition

[ January 28 to April 8, 2012 ]
石川雅之の世界展

This exhibition showcased the trajectory of Masayuki Ishikawa – the author of the hit Moyashimon which adopted the unique perspective of bacteria and fermentation into the subject of the manga.

Food Manga Festival

[ October 1 to October 30, 2011 ]

This was an exhibition of original images by three manga artists (Big Joe, Shigeru Tsuchiyama and Yoshimi Kurata) popular for their food-themed manga. Through this display of original works we introduced these artists who pursue food from their own unique perspectives, such as "create," "eat" and "entertain."

Kamen Rider Memorial Exhibition

[ July 16 to September 11, 2011 ]

In addition to an exhibition of original images by Shotaro Ishinomari and Kenichi Muraeda, there was an introduction to the Kamen Riders throughout the ages, a standing statue display, a screening of opening videos and a display of valuable goods to celebrate 40 years since the birth of this character.

Special Exhibition of Original Images to Celebrate the 40 Year Career of Takao Yaguchi: 40th Special Thanks Exhibition (Part 2)

[ April 23 to May 29, 2011 ]

This was the gorgeous remake of the 40th Special Thanks Exhibition that was held in autumn in 2010 to rave reviews. This was held as project to provide reconstruction support to Ishinomori Manga Museum. We held a charity autograph session centered on inhabitants of the prefecture during Golden Week (early May holidays).

Exhibition of Original Images by Seiki Tsuchida

[ February 8 to April 10, 2011 ]

This was an exhibition of original images by the manga artist Seiki Tsuchida who was born in Yokote City (Omori Town). We introduced the world of his works that overflow with charm, such as human affection drawn with a powerful touch, youth and humor.

Special Exhibition of Original Images to Celebrate the 40 Year Career of Takao Yaguchi: 40th Special Thanks Exhibition

[ October 2 to November 28, 2010 ]

This was a special exhibition held to celebrate 40 years of the work of Takao Yaguchi who has continued to be active at the forefront of the manga world in Japan with the presentation of his numerous hits, including his masterpiece Tsurikichi Sanpei. We displayed more than 300 of his beautiful original images from his manga and paintings. Together with this, we showed the trajectory of Takao Yaguchi with overwhelming volume (e.g. a Sanpei-kun display and a display of the Yaguchi Collection by Hiroshi Okabe who is a resident of Eniwa City in Hokkaido).

Tatsunoko Anime World

[ July 17 to September 12, 2010 ]

Tatsunoko Production has released a countless number of works as a pioneer of anime production in Japan and is active as a leader of the Japanese anime industry. This special exhibition showcased the charms of the works from Tatsunoko who have continued to give hope and dreams to families all over the world while introducing the history of Tatsunoko anime for each piece.

World of Ryo Kudo Exhibition

[ April 17 to May 30, 2010 ]

This was an exhibition of pieces by the digital artist Ryo Kudo who has brought back heroes in various genres (e.g. historical figures) from the world of "digital" to the present day centered on heroes in the works of Shotaro Ishinomari (e.g. Kamen Rider). We also held an autograph session with both Ryo Kudo and Takao Yaguchi during Golden Week (early May holidays). This led to the museum being packed with many visitors.

Exhibition of Original Images by Shota Kikuchi: Hyakka Ryoran

[ January 30 to April 4, 2010 ]

This was a special exhibition of original images by the manga artist Shota Kikuchi who was born in Yokote City (Omori Town). We displayed more than 300 original images from all his works – from his debut piece to his manga that is currently being serialized. We showcased his characteristic deformed pictures and his unique view of the world that has a commitment to peace interwoven with sensuality and humor.

New Generation Power of Akita

[ September 19 to October 25, 2009 ]

Akita Prefecture has produced many manga artists, including Takao Yaguchi. This exhibition shone the spotlight on five young manga artists responsible for the next generation and introduced their energy and charms through an exhibition of their original images and books.

Ultraman Exhibition

[ July 18 to August 23, 2009 ]

This exhibition introduced the 40 years of history since the birth of Ultraman based on the world of Ultra Q, Ultraman and Ultra Seven – the roots of this. We displayed a number of valuable materials, including setting materials, panel photographs and original monster manga images by monster painters. Hiroko Sakurai – who played the role of Akiko Fuji in Ultraman – took part in the ribbon cutting ceremony at the opening of this exhibition to top off this event.

World of the Movie of Tsurikichi Sanpei

[ March 30 to April 5 and April 18 to May 7, 2009 ]

This was a special exhibition to celebrate the live-action film adaption of Takao Yaguchi’s timeless masterpiece Tsurikichi Sanpei. This event was held in conjunction with the premier of this movie. In addition to a display of more than 300 original images that were the theme of this movie, we exhibited costumes/props used in the movie and still photographs during filming to convey the charms of the movie and the original manga.

Exhibition of Original Images by Yoshimi Kurata

[ January 24 to March 8, 2009 ]

This was an exhibition of about 200 valuable original images by Yoshimi Kurata – from his debut period to the present day – centered on his masterpiece Aji Ichi Monme. We introduced the world of Yoshimi Kurata who pursues the "beauty of the soul" through his countless works.

World of the Tableau Artist Takao Yaguchi Exhibition

[ October 4 to November 16, 2008 ]

Takao Yaguchi has been attracting increasing attention together with the release of the live action movie Tsurikichi Sanpei. In addition to his manga, including Tsurikichi Sanpei among others, his amazing drawing ability have won him a strong reputation in the world of painting. This special exhibition displayed original images and large panels under the theme of "tableau" from among his many works. This exhibition introduced the world of the tableau artist Takao Yaguchi who has acquired the uppermost limit of unique techniques in the genre of manga.

World of Gosho Aoyama Exhibition

[ July 19 to September 16, 2008 ]

This exhibition showcased the 22 year life as a author of Gosho Aoyama with manuscripts from his masterpieces (e.g. Case Closed and YAIBA), his favorite tools and memorabilia.

Exhibition of Phantom Images by Takao Yaguchi

[ April 26 to May 25, 2008 ]

We exhibited about 100 "phantom images" used as the frontispiece during manga serialization and not then complied into the subsequent books centered on Tsurikichi Sanpei.

Exhibition of Original Images by Yoshihiro Takahashi: Genealogy of Love and Justice

[ January 12 to March 16, 2008 ]

We exhibited more than 300 original images from Yoshihiro Takahashi who is known for Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin, Ginga Legend Weed and Akutare Kiyojin (Giants).

SHI KI SHI Exhibition (Colored Paper Exhibition)

[ October 5 to December 9, 2007 ]

We received numerous colored paper from a great many manga artists to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the work of the manga artist Takao Yaguchi, who is the honorary director of this museum, in 2000 and these were exhibited in 2007.

Takashi Yanase Exhibition: World of Anpanman and Fairy Tales

[ July 21 to August 26, 2007 ]

This was an exhibition of about 170 original images and tapestries by Takashi Yanase (e.g. Anpanman, Poetry and Fairy Tales and Gentle Lion). Free screenings were held of Anpanman in the Theater Room of the Fureai Plaza annexed to this museum during the period of this exhibition.


New Century of Sanpei Exhibition

[ April 28 to May 6, 2007 ]

This exhibition was held to commemorate Takao Yaguchi winning the Golden Dragon Award (China’s first manga prize). We displayed silk screens and panels, including about 40 original images from the front covers of the convenience store editions in the Heisei Period (from 1989).

Five Person Exhibition: Recollections, Hometown and Akita – Exhibition of Manga Artists Born in Akita Prefecture

[ July 22 to September 10, 2006 ]

This exhibition was held to commemorate the birth of Yokote City. We displayed original images by five manga artists: Takao Yaguchi, Yoshihiro Takahashi, Yoshimi Kurata, Shota Kikuchi and Seiki Tsuchida.

Tsurikichi Sanpei Exhibition

[ April 29 to May 7, 2006 ]

This exhibition was held to commemorate the birth of Yokote City. We displayed 94 original images – including about 30 previously unpublished images – and 10 silk screens.

Osamu Tezuka and Takao Yaguchi Exhibition: Sparkling Hometown

[ July 6 to September 18, 2005 ]

This was the second part of our exhibition to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Manga Museum and the 35 years of the career of Takao Yaguchi. We displayed original images and related items by Osamu Tezuka and Takao Yaguchi.

Tsurikichi Sanpei CLASSIC Exhibition

[ April 29 to May 8, 2005]

This was the first part of our exhibition to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Manga Museum and the 35 years of the career of Takao Yaguchi. We displayed valuable original images such as the front cover art of Sanpei CLASSIC and more.

World of Mitsuru Adachi

[ July 10 to September 12, 2004 ]

Mitsuru Adachi is known as a pioneer of youth story manga (e.g. Touch). He has continued to be active at the forefront of the manga industry for 30 years. He is known as a popular artist across the ages whose hits continue to be serialized to this day. This special exhibition was held as a part of the events to commemorate his 30 years in the industry. In addition to a display of his original images, related magazines and goods, there was a corner that reproduced his studio. This made it possible to fully take in the world of Mitsuru Adachi.

Takao Yaguchi: Hometown and Four Seasons

[ April 27 to May 5, 2004 ]

This event was held as a special exhibition in the spring of 2004.

Astro Boy (Animation Exhibition)

[ July 9 to September 28, 2003 ]

Astro – who has been awaiting his moment of awakening – finally reached the moment of his birth on April 7, 2003. A new Astro Boy animation television series was started to celebrate this year. As you no doubt know, Astro Boy is a work with a significant meaning for Osamu Tezuka. This manga continued to be serialized over 18 years from 1952. A monochrome version began as Japan’s first anime TV series in 1963 and was then broadcast all over the world to make the name of Osamu Tezuka known internationally. Moreover, Astro Boy has continued to be loved over a long period of time. For example, the work was given new life and broadcast as a color animation in 1980. This television series depicts a story in which Atom – the robot with a heart – overcomes various worries and troubles to grow his soul while living together with humans.

30th Anniversary of the Birth of Tsurikichi Sanpei Exhibition

This exhibition gave an introduction to the world of Sanpei – given to us by the painter Takao Yaguchi.

Midway in the Dream of Shinji Mizushima / World of Kewaishi by Shotaro Ishinomori

This exhibition introduced the trajectory of the 45-year career of Shinji Mizushima since his debut. We displayed some of his valuable original images and goods from Dokaben, Abu-san, Iwaki, Mizushima Yuki and more! Furthermore, we had a special sale of his original goods.
